Thursday’s Addington greyhound tips & quaddie | April 20, 2023
The usual high-grade greyhound meeting in New Zealand is set down for Thursday evening with a competitive 12 races at Addington. The first jumps at 4:09pm (NZDT).
Best Bet: Opawa Hugo (Race 10)
The feature of the night's racing is the Robinson Rosebowl over 520m for Class 5 chasers, and it's also where we have out best bet in Opawa Hugo. He is effectively jumping up two grades in class but looks up to the task by virtue of an impressive all-the-way win here last week, stopping the clock in just a tick over 30 seconds. The encouraging part of that performance was his box speed, which seems most potent when drawn close to the rails. He won't get it easy with the last-start winner Opawa Conan drawn to his inside, but with a slow trapper to his outside he should get the room he needs to get handy to that first bend. It will be a close contest but this fellow looks up to the challenge.

Next Best Bet: Who Gives (Race 11)
Who Gives was surprisingly beaten as favourite here last week but can be forgiven that run as he was on a two-day backup from a different track and was also starting from a wide box draw. He gets a better box here, and with a week between runs this time he should be back on top of the winners' dais. Follow your money.

Best Value Bet: Sefton Heights (Race 8)
Sefton Heights faced pretty much the same line-up last week and showed his first glimpse of form for some time when running on strongly to finish third. His slow starts have been his downfall recently, but he did look to be a lot quicker out of the traps last start. He is drawn even closer to the rails for this assignment, which does enable him to hear the lure more clearly. If he can continue to improve his box manners, then he could be too strong for this line-up.
