Wentworth Park hosts another nice 10-race program with a very competitive 1-3 Wins race series on Wednesday as we work our way towards the Golden Easter Egg meeting on Saturday night. Read on to see our race-by-race selections and best bets for the evening.
Race 1: NSW GBOTA Welcome Maiden 520m
Most of these runners tried their luck in the Magic Maiden series here over the last couple of weeks and Mexican Bandit came through that series with a nice 3rd and 4th. He showed reasonable pace in both races and is on the up. Redbank Cassy is one that doesn't come through the maiden series rather coming down from the northern provincials where she has been improving with every run and her 2nd behind a Hallinan Zipping Chassis in BON at Maitland last start was promising. Embrace wanted to get off the track last start and found trouble and may well be better off out in the 8 box and Romantic Flame is from a very good litter and I would expect further improvement from her
Sweptail is the class runner here and although he has been off the scene for two months but Frances Goodwin is a classy trainer who should have him cheery ripe for this. His P.B of 29.89 is good enough to win this comfortably and will be hard to beat if right, Redbank Molly has been going nicely at Taree of late and gets her chance to take on the city dwellers, she has shown good pace in her races and is a good chance to lead this and cause some headaches for the favourite. Battle Born is having its first go away from the gardens but his form up there is ok and Japanese Black contested the Ultra Sense (listed race) on Friday night so will appreciate the drop in class and is an each way hope.
Lightning Ethics was unlucky not to be getting a crack at the rich Maiden Final Saturday night after finding trouble in the semis. Seems an above average type. Box 8 will be better for him and expect him to be very hard to beat. Alice Unchained was another that contested the Ultra Sense on Friday night and was a gallant 2nd to Zipping Lopez finishing strongly. She will definitely have a part to play in this race. Romantic Power is another from a good litter that does plenty wrong in his races but just keeps picking up a cheque. He would need to begin better and heaven help his competitors the night he does. Lady Stomp is from a red hot litter (Tiger Jack and Doonan) and I would expect her to be improving soon and tonight might be that night. Zipping Supremo drops back into a suitable grade from the ultra-sense and has only missed a place once off the inside.
Race 4: It's Going to Be Glorious 1-3 Win Heat 3 5th Grade 520m
What About That from the strong Lord Kennel has an impressive record and has been off the scene for a couple of months has beaten Sweptail which we tip earlier so watch the form line there but is highly promising and will probably start short priced favourite. Papa Joe stepped up and out last week leading all the way and while the sectional times weren't sizzling further improvement would give him a big chance. Tarawi Sophie looked like she was ready to go on with her maiden win here last month before finding trouble in a 5th grade well worth another try from the wide box as she has pace. Raglan Mamba went from winning a maiden 400m at Richmond into the Listed Ultra Sense last week and wasn't disgraced so the Brewer Kennel obviously thinks he has some ability. Spring Elegance is another young dog from a good litter and is definitely on the up can just be a bit risky at box rise.
Sunnyside Boy tried his luck in the g3 New Sensation series and was not beaten all that far by Yuki Girl. He is definitely a dog with a bright future and this series looks ideal for him but doesn't get an east heat by any stretch of the imagination. Agland Luai also raced in that series and ran into Doonan. So with the pace this boy can show on his night is a big danger. Valor has been so consistent of late and deserves to break through chased hard against Send It Tiger last week and will be in this race for a long way and just might get a lovely cart across from the 7. Clay Made is from a talented litter that usually shows good pace and has recently switched to the Goodwin Kennels. Rock Burner has shown talent on the bigger tracks and might need some luck from that awkward draw.
The stayers take on the next and it a case of Greg Hore vs the rest. Greg has three runners Hawke runners – Penny, Jack and Jenny – and each has been racing well without winning recently, but it's Cawbourne Magic and Fantastic Felix that hold the interest. Felix has only had 9 career starts and won here over the sprints in a respectable 30.15 and I think he leads from out wide and if he stay will be very hard to beat. Cawbourne Magic's 600m debut at Dapto was very good and will be better over longer, so his 720m debut is highly anticipated. Holistic Key has been finishing off 600m races really well and will be right there with some luck.
Spring Renegade had been building nicely before running into a hot field in the heats of the Ultra Sense and drops back into a very winnable race. Needs to improve on starts and the box is problematic but he will be hard to beat. Pristine Image is the class dog but is just not going quite as well as he was at the end of last year. Ritza Rain can show pace and may lead and has a sub 30 sec PB here which could be good enough in this. Runway Messi is mixing form but is capable on his night and Shinya comes off a good win here last Friday although the time was only moderate but it was the last race.
Charlie's Jar has been going so well here of late and he beat Lepidoptera before getting held up hitting the fence and running on nice behind Opal Model in the Ultra Sense. Will need to begin better tonight and the full field will do him no favours. Emerald Green looks like he might be the leader and beat home the 7 last time they met. Sooky Lala has been good winning at Bulli and then coming from well back to just miss here behind Emerald Green. If he can improve his box manners can definitely win this. Thirsty Colley must be a hope and Geoffrey Sheather doesn't come to town to often these days unless he's a hope. While Serengeti lead until they turned last week and faded but if she improves in fitness and track sense can lead this race tonight and maybe hang on a little better.
Lepidoptera has shown good pace at its recent outings and looks like it could lead but needs to show a bit more than we have seen recently. Tap Out Diesel has picked up cheques at his last 3 but needs to mend his moderate beginnings which have cost him the big prize. Redhead Rider was gallant in defeat here on Friday night pushing Where's Rocky all of the way and has won here off this box. Winlock Lynette has been racing well on the provincials and deserves her chance in town and Club Model is from a good litter and looks to be starting to put things together now, was a decent run on Friday night and gets the inside and will get some room early and has pace
Magic Flame has 9 placings from 10 goes here including 4 wins and looks very hard to beat. She hasn't won from box 7 or 8 which is a concern but is racing so well here of late that she must be a big chance in this. Highly Dangerous has great form at the Gardens but must bring that to town now and will be benefitted by a vacant box underneath but has an abundance of pace when he nails the start and is the one to watch. Red Hot Mouse will have derived plenty of benefit for his run here last week and if he improves off the red where he has won 3 of 4 with a second is definitely a threat. While Barooga Franky has the best P.B of these dogs but would need to produce it again tonight.
