Big Energy lights Up Sandown with second Shootout victory
Big Energy lit up Sandown Park on Friday night, delivering another breathtaking performance to claim the 2024 Group 3 Shootout (515m) title for the second consecutive year.
Trained by Kel and Jackie Greenough, the three-year-old star reaffirmed his status as one of Australia’s premier sprinters with a solid run of 28.94.

Jumping from box three as the $2.00 favourite with the leading greyhound bookmakers, Big Energy seized the moment with a 5.02 first sectional, establishing an early lead that set the tone for the race.
Maintaining his speed throughout and holding off the fast-finishing Vincent Bale by two lengths. Blue Kermaro secured third place, while Hector Fawley rounded out the field in fourth.
The victory not only secured back-to-back Shootout titles for Big Energy but also continued the remarkable success of the Greenough kennel securing a three-peat in this particular race.
The star sprinter follows in the footsteps of Wow She’s Fast, another Greenough-trained champion who won the 2022 Shootout.
Big Energy’s time of 28.94 was just shy of the 28.79 track record set by Aston Rupee in 2021.
