Bogie Magic Dominates Gawler Gold Cup

After being unsuccessful in the Bunyip in 2012, the -trained Bogie Magic returned for his second crack at the $26,700 to the winner event last night and was too strong for his competitors in the run to the line.

Beginning beautifully from box four, the black chaser assumed the lead immediately after box rise before railing strongly around the first turn and accelerating into the back straight. With a commanding lead turning for home, the 33 kilogram campaigner kicked on resiliently to land the cash in a quick 30.92s.

Running on well into second position was the -prepared Kalden Kurageous with rails runner Victa Victorious making up good ground to finish in third position.

Bogie Magic finished fourth in last year’s race when trained by behind former kennelmate Bogie King, but was simply too good this year at his 57th career start. The son of and has been an above average performer for his current Lewiston-based trainer, now with the ultra-impressive record of 21 victories and 15 minor placings.

Race favourite Encosta Kahn ($2.90) was never in contention after finding trouble on the first turn which left Bogie Magic ($7.50) clear and looking the winner a long way from home. Bogie Magic’s kennelmate Bogie Prince ($25.70) found interference after a tardy beginning, eventually finishing in seventh position.

Bogie Magic for the final after an all the way from box eight in Tuesday’s heats. While he only clocked 31.11s (fastest qualifier was 30.84s) in the race, he had a personal best of 30.74s over the track and distance and was always going to improve from the draw closer to the rails in the big decider.

Despite being nearly three and a half years of age, the former Queenslander is still racing in superb style- now as a winner of five of his six starts in South Australia since joining Rawling’s kennel in late August.
