EAGLE-EYED punters would have noticed a number of late scratchings at South Australian greyhound track Gawler today, with the Lisa Rasmussen camp responsible for five omissions from as many races.
You could have been forgiven for thinking a spate of dog flu had run through the kennel, but upon some investigation we discovered something far less harrowing than a potential sickness or injury.
Australian Racing Greyhound contacted the Gawler racetrack after noticing the late scratchings. The club confirmed the quintet of runners were all late scratchings due to “car trouble” in the Rasmussen camp.
As enthusiasts of the sport, we were happy to breathe a sigh of relief.
If you’re going to have a number of dogs miss their scheduled races, we’d hazard a guess that transport issues would be the preferred method ahead of an aliment to the runners.
ARG wishes Lisa and her team the best of luck ahead of their next scheduled race date at Angle Park on September 27.
