Christine Pollard Found Guilty Of Clenbuterol Positive Swab
Greyhounds Queensland have just announced their findings from an inquiry in to Mackay trained greyhound that returned a positive swab to Clenbuterol.
Whilst Clenbuterol is publicly known as a bronchodilator or asthmatic medication, it is commonly used amongst the athletic community as a “cutting” agent to reduce body fat. But is also used as a non-steroidal anabolic and metabolism accelerator with long lasting stimulant properties that have similar characteristics to ephidrine and methamphetamines.
Greyhounds Queensland Stewards convened an inquiry on the 17th January 2009 in relation to the urine sample taken from the greyhound Madonna Portrait which competed on the 27th November 2008 at the Mackay Greyhound Racing Club in Race 2 (placed 1st) and subsequently returned positive to the drug Clenbuterol.
Stewards directed Trainer Mrs. Christine Pollard of Emerald to appear.
Evidence was taken from Mrs. Pollard along with a number of written submissions including one from Dr. Greg Sternberg, a Warwick Veterinarian working independantly as “Greg Sternberg Veterinary Services”.
Stewards charged the Trainer under GAR 83 (2) (a) (d) which states;
- (2) The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound
- (a) nominated to compete in an Event
- (d) shall present the greyhound free of any drug
Mrs. Pollard pleaded not guilty.
Mrs. Pollard was found guilty as charged.
Mrs. Pollard was Suspended for 3 months and fined $500.
Stewards also disqualified the greyhound Madonna Portrait from its 1st placing at the Mackay Greyhound Racing Club meeting on the 27th of November 2008.
