Connections wins Gardens Million Dollar Chase (MDC) Regional final
He’s well regarded as the ‘pocket rocket’ of racing and Connections who weighs in at just 27.1kg, packed plenty of punch in last night’s Million Dollar Chase (MDC) Regional final at The Gardens.
Michelle Sultana held a big hand in the MDC regional final, qualifying the two quickest greyhounds from the previous weeks heats; and both greyhound dominated the greyhound betting markets with greyhound betting sites.
Connections started -285.71 favourite, and Space Girl started +500 second favourite with online bookmakers. Nothing else was quoted under double figures to win the race.
Connections sizzled around the 515m in 29.21 in an all-the-way display from box two.
The son of Fernando Bale and My Lady Day posted blistering sectionals of 4.89, 17.02 and came home in 12.19, posting an overall time just 0.05 seconds outside of Zipping Bailey‘s track record of 29.16.
The Michelle Sultana-trained chaser remains unbeaten at the Newcastle circuit in his six attempts, taking his overall career record to 12 victories from 15 outings.
It’s been a remarkable effort to get him back to the track after an exactly seven-month hiatus from May to December last year due to injury.
Kennel mate Space Girl lost no admirers in her galant performance to finish second, defeated by 3.75 lengths in notching up a new personal best time of 29.48.
Denis Berwick’s Black Flipper finished just 0.5 lengths away in third, recording a time 29.51.
All three greyhounds qualified for the Million Dollar Chase semi-finals to be run at Wentworth Park on April 29, 2022.
