Corridor’s 500m Bendigo Track Record Run

It's rare to witness a performance in a grade five event, but that is exactly what occurred at Bendigo's Lords Raceway last evening. The heats of the grade five drew excellent fields, with some well performed chasers competing over the 500 metre distance.

Corridor, a striking black son of -Transmit became the new track record holder, carving out the 500 metre distance in a stunning 27.765 seconds, eclipsing the previous record of 27.769 seconds held by Silver Spider, set exactly one year and one week prior.  With the addition of the new finish-lynx system, times can now be reduced to one thousandth of a second.  This enables times recorded to be even more closely scrutinised, with the difference in this case being just four one thousandths of a second.

Often not the best of beginners, Corridor began well and was second as the field passed the 430 metre boxes. He quickly asserted his authority and raced to the front down the back straight, increasing his margin in the run to the line, greeting the judge 7.65 lengths in front of Dyna Perseus, with Wally Portelli a further four lengths away in third place.

Trainer is no stranger to producing greyhounds capable of running scintillating times; in fact Corridor is the fourth track record holder the kennel has produced in recent years.

Speaking to Australian Racing Greyhound, Carter said although Corridor has a huge motor, the time he posted even caught him unaware, as the black chaser had been off the scene for almost two months with injury.

“He had a cut pad and I had only been able to give him a couple of short trials and a run at , where he finished third.”

“He really wasn't ready to run anything like that.”

Carter said long term he believed Corridor would excel over the 600 metre journeys, with the during the Carnival over the 600 metres at being the long term goal.

When pressed further regarding his staying potential Carter said, “He is capable of running record times over the middle distances.”

Corridor's pedigree is also worth delving into with a totally imported dam line being a standout feature.  His sire Collision has been a wonderful producer for many years, however, his dam Transmit is by Digital out of Lark Song, making him completely imported on the dam side.

Corridor is one of two greyhounds Carter has for the final of the 500 metre event to be run at Bendigo on Saturday evening.  Speed Lane has come up with the red alley while Corridor has drawn box seven.  The wide draw should assist Corridor in gaining a clear passage in the initial stages and that could be enough to enable him to post another victory.  All eyes will again be if the strong chaser finds his way to an early lead, with another record performance not out of the question.

Nice article, I’d disagree that it is rare to see records in 5th grades though, they often run them there before they reach the top grade as they are practically running by themselves. sure there’s plenty in the top grade when the tracks are hot, but i think the spread would be more even than you think.
