New Faces, Old Faces – Good Winners At Virginia Coursing

With only a small six event program, some very good racing was witnessed by the coursing stalwarts in cold, windy and showery conditions.

The program started with a Mixed Novice/One Stake and saw King Chaos return to coursing with a good win for Ben Rawlings over Rolland Parry’s Kirkstall Jenny in 15.50.

The GOTBA Free For All saw Don Turner’s Stew’s Mistake show his liking for the track at Virginia when he defeated Rolland Parry’s Vail in 15.28.

The GOTBA Maiden Race 3 saw a newcomer in Nathan Wilson lead in his first winner when Infinate Joy defeated Wendy Sebastyan’s Shiela’s Moment in 15.57.

Karon Blakemore’s patience was rewarded when Blonde Justice took out the GOTBA Maiden Race 4 when she defeated Robyn Mackellar’s Black Merlo in 15.38.

Race 5, the GOTBA Maiden saw Len Wilson’s Mr Punting defeat Don Turner’s Poetic Mover in 15.33.

In the last, the GOTBA Maiden/Juvenile provided Simon Gessler with a good win when Little Caddy defeated Tina Cattermole’s I’m So Blonde in 15.80.

Please note that we have moved our meeting scheduled for 24 August to Sunday 31 August. This does not clash with Gawler and as a result we will be running the 2014 Waterloo Cup as well as the 2014 Oaks and Derby. These are 16 dog events, but numbers will depend on nominations received. Nominations close with GRSA on Wednesday 27 August and the Oaks and Derby are for Bitches and Dogs whelped on or after 1 March 2012 and do not have to have competed at Virginia. The Waterloo Cup is an Open event but all dogs nominated must have had at least one start in a coursing event – either here or in Victoria.

Nomination fee for all events is $20 and prizemoney for these events is : GOTBA/GRSA Derby and GOTBA/GRSA Oaks – $1700 + Trophy/Rug, Runner Up $550, Equal thirds $100. The 2014 GOTBA/GRSA Waterloo Cup $2600 + Trophy/Rug, Runner Up $650, Equal thirds $120; 2014 Waterloo Cup Consolation (for greyhounds run out in the first course) $500, Runner Up $200, Equal Thirds $50. ALL prizemoney is dependent upon 16 nominations being received.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Sunday 31 August.
