No Reason To Panic At Virginia Coursing

In bitter cold and windy conditions, the Terry Cahalan trained and Ben Murphy owned Panic sent out an early warning message when he took out the Rising Star prelude in fine style defeating Barb Cahill’s Lady In Waiting.

The Emerley Park Mixed Stake saw the return of Parsipanny to field racing when she defeated Barry Jones’ Slipper’sTonic – with strong winds from the southwest, extremely fast times were recorded in this event, 14.96, 14.94, 14.89 and 14.88 (best).

Cosie Lopresto was all smiles when Bella Dakota greeted the judge in the Kennard’s Hire Maiden Stake defeating Allen Williams Mac’s Cult.

Murray Harvey returned to field racing with a newcomer in Vadream who defeated Mika Haworth’s Delta Gold.

Ken Pyke is never far from a winner and Bruiser Brody didn’t let him down when winning the Two Wells Hardware & More Maiden Stake defeated Paul Wheeler’s Aiden Bale.

Shaun Matcott again had a very good day leading in a treble with Miss Manakie, Dyna Gabi and Gracelyn Bale – with Miss Manakie winning one of the Club’s $500 jackpots.

Justin Penn’s Weown Cha Cha again proved her ability when taking out the GOTBA Novice Stake defeating Brian Styles Monor.

The final two races, Juvenile/Maiden events, were won by Daryl Mader’s Belalie Boy and Neil Mann’s Mr Defiant.

Our strike rate continues to hold up extremely well with greyhounds who have been coursing either winning or placing at their subsequent starts on the circle.

Point scores in the 2010 Trainers Award show Shaun Matcott with a commanding lead over Peter Hurley and Shaun Laffin and Weowna Cha Cha leading Slipper’s Tonic by 1 point in the GOY award.

With a three week break to our next meeting scheduled for 22 August, owners and trainers are reminded that the Ruby Loans Rising Star Stakes (best 16 dogs/bitches whelped on or after 1/7/2008) and the Patrons Cup (best 16) will be conducted at this meeting.

Supporting events will be run dependent upon nominations received. Nominations close with GRSA at 9.00 am on Wednesday 18 August. Come along – give your dog a break and enjoy the good company and good food.
