Crossley’s Boss Makes It Back-To-Back Wins In The Fast Class
The kennels of Southern Rivers trainer John Crossley has a new star attraction after smart chaser Boss Coin made it two Free For All wins in as many weeks. In a field that contained Perth Cup winner, Dyna Nalin ($1.70) and evergreen sprinter Vocal Enforcer ($8.10), Boss Coin was sent out at odds of $4.50, and made every post a winner when collecting the $4100 first prize.
Beginning well from the three box, the son of Surf Lorian and Cheryl's Lass was able to match motors with Kenny Powers ($22.40) and Vocal Enforcer in the run to the first post, stopping the first sectional clock at 5.76. With plenty of trouble occurring behind the leading trio, the favourite Dyna Nalin was unable to get into the race and had a lot of work to do with a long way to go.
From there, Boss Coin was running his own race, extending the margin out to five lengths once the 530 metres was complete, with 30.33 becoming his new PB around the metropolitan layout. Kenny Powers stayed in the runner-up spot for the duration, while Vocal Enforcer picked up yet another cheque in third place, another length astern. Dyna Nalin finished at the tail of the field after suffering numerous checks and was subsequently vetted upon completion of the race.
The win takes the career tally of Boss Coin to 11 from only a 19 start career that began less than a year ago and plenty more similar performances appear close on the horizon.
Time honours for the Saturday night meeting this week went to the impressive Off To Fenway who annihilated his opposition off the red box in 30.25. The Eric Campana trained dog was expected to be far too classy for the Grade 5 field, starting unbackable at $1.20 and that sentiment proved true as he romped away by seven and a half lengths, leading all of the way.
The speedy son of Magic Sprite has only been racing since August 2012, and began his career in NSW with a couple of wins around Dapto's 520 metres. He was soon sent West and has continued on his merry way, placing in 14 of his 17 starts and with this recent injection of funds, has brought his total banked to over $20,000.
He played a role in the recent Perth Cup series, when runner-up behind Harry Monelli, before running down the track behind General Destini in the rich consolation event. One would tend to think that the experienced gained from those runs will prove to be invaluable when the big races come around again.
In form trainer, Paul Stuart featured well on the night, with a Paul Wheeler-owned double with former Victorians Flip Bale and Eldis Bale.
Both greyhounds will be well known to Victorians, having started around the metropolitan circuits on many occasions. Flip Bale was the more accomplished of the two in Victoria with wins around Sandown in 29.71 and 29.69 as well as 30.08 around The Meadows. He is known for being a walker out of the boxes, and that was displayed last week on his W.A debut where Flip Bale came from near last to score in 30.39.
This week it was a different story, and with the help of the three box, he was able to find the rail, and the lead early in the race to score well by three lengths, over Cool Rush, surprisingly in the slower time of 30.69.
Eldis Bale was a similar story, beginning well from the one box and leading for most of the way ahead of Jungle Hero for Linda Britton. She now adds a 30.53 Cannington win to her metro list as well as her previous 30.17 and 30.20 wins around The Meadows. She has always shown affinity for the rails, and despite her nice win on debut, it might pay to risk her when drawing wide in the higher grades.
