Crump Wins Group Two Horsham Cup & Runs Track Record

A great display of strength and finishing speed landed Crump (8) the Two 2014 on Saturday night for trainer .

Using the outside alley with aplomb, the son of Superman and Mon Cherie (Spiral Nikita – Herron Quay) sprouted wings in the final metres to, not only haul in early leader Innocent Til, but also lower the long standing .

The 35kg black dog stopped the clock at 26.67, just 0.01 faster than the time set by Crash back in 2004 which, at the time, was a world record over 480 metres. It was Crump's first Group final win at his sixth appearance.

Innocent Til (5) left the boxes well and found the front early from Ollie Bale (9). Crump stayed wide and took little time to work his way to second with the sit on the leader.

From that point, it looked a case of whether or not Crump's customary finishing burst would be enough to haul in the classy Innocent Til.

As the turned for home, Innocent Til had a two-length ascendency with Crump remaining wide and balancing up for one last crack.

The pair put on an all-engrossing battle down the long straight with Crump overhauling Innocent Til around 80 metres from the line to score by a length. Youngster Warrior King ran a solid race to work his way through the field for third, some 6 1/2 lengths from the winner.

Of the beaten brigade, Hawk Alone (1) stepped well but struggled to keep up with the early pace and found himself a long way back. Musquin Bale (2) did not begin well and found plenty of trouble back in the field. Evie's Entity was last early and ran into a dead-end as she tried to make her run.

Empire Allen (7) did not show his usual early pace and was never in the hunt as a result. Ollie Bale (9) began well and could not quite match motors with Innocent Til, he was then galloped on from behind and dropped back through the field sharply.

The win takes Crump's career record to 22 wins from 46 starts and in excess of $120,000 in prize-money.
