David Lewis appointed GRSA chair, replacing Grantley Stevens

David Lewis has been named the new chair of Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA), succeeding Grantley Stevens, who has led the GRSA Board since 2018 and served as a Board member for over a decade.
To ensure a smooth transition, Mr. Stevens will remain on the Board for a period before fully stepping aside.
Reflecting on his tenure, Mr. Stevens expressed his passion for the industry and appreciation for the stakeholders he has worked with.
“I am a proud advocate for greyhound racing, and I have enjoyed chairing the organisation and the interaction with a wonderful group of industry stakeholders,” Mr. Stevens said.
Looking ahead, he is eager to collaborate with Mr. Lewis as GRSA navigates future challenges and opportunities.
“I now look forward to working with David as the organisation continues to confront its challenges and bed down a great future,” he added.
Mr. Stevens also highlighted the industry’s strong position and its commitment to welfare and integrity.
“The Board of GRSA has built a strong financial and asset base and has the strategy in place to build on nation-leading successes such as our rehoming program that enabled more than 500 former racers to be placed into the community last year as truly wonderful domestic pets,” he said.
“Working with our participants, we are confronting, positively and forthrightly, all challenges with a clear focus on our love of the greyhound and the integrity and welfare framework that complements this.”
Mr. Lewis, a business and marketing specialist with a background in banking, has been a GRSA Board member since 2020. While eager to bring his own leadership style to the role, he acknowledged the significant impact of his predecessor.
“All in greyhound racing are appreciative of the leadership and commitment Grantley has demonstrated, and it is a privilege to be tasked with continuing the great work he has driven,” Mr. Lewis said.
He also underscored the economic and social contributions of the industry.
“The greyhound industry makes a $125m annual economic contribution to the state; we are a significant employer and make an important social and community contribution.”
Regarding his immediate priorities, Mr. Lewis emphasised the importance of implementing key recommendations and securing the sport’s long-term stability.
“As to the priorities as I see them, obviously bedding down the Ashton Review recommendations and securing our long-term future is number one.”
