Ernie Cruises To Victory In The Brian Johnstone Memorial

Tonight was a high quality night of racing at , with a packed house being treated to an outstanding display of pure speed from local hero Ernie Bung Arrow, who speared straight to the lead and was never challenged in the $35,000 Memorial Final. Ernie went a flying 29.66 and won by staggering margin of nine lengths in his final start for , prior to joining the powerful kennel in Victoria.

Peter Jovanovic summed it up perfectly last week, “He will win the final next week no matter where he draws. He is just a brilliant box dog, the best box dog I've seen here since Top Honcho back in the mid nineties. Ernie just seems to break their hearts with sheer box speed.”

Ernie wasn't the only winner on the night to break the thirty second barrier, with the Angle Park track alight. semi-finalist Set The Scene won race two in a very impressive winner in 29.90. The two grade four's on the program saw Bogie Prince stop the clock in a flying 29.86 and Springvale Cool win in 29.94. Kenso Karoo ran a very fast 29.90 for trainer in .I. Electrical Grade 5.

The shock of the meeting was the defeat of superstar stayer Token McLaren, who was beaten by litter sister Zara McLaren in a huge upset. Token McLaren found all sorts of trouble and ran on from last to be beaten by a length and a quarter.
