Farmer’s Image Upsets More Fancied Rivals
The well performed Farmer’s Image upset some of her fancied rivals when she led all of the way in the Sportingbet stake at Casino last Friday. Jumping out from box two, she held the rails running in the run to the first turn, and was able to get what was a winning break as they went down the back. In the “wash up” the Jan McLean trained galloper ran a personal best time of 23.10 in a two length win.
Much improved sprinter Calamber took out the Westlawn Novice final with another fine railing display. Not the best to begin, she mustered speed after hitting the ground, and just kept sneaking along the fence. She also ran a personal best time of 23.40 in holding out favourite Bralyn Riley in the rush to the line. Robert Cooke trains her, and she is locally bred being by former Casino Cup winner Hot Syrup.
Charlie Northfield was able to pick up some travelling money for his country trips, after landing a winning double. Kingsbrae Sam returned to her home track to be well placed all of the way before racing clear to win the Rapidvite Free For All in a fast 27.36, whilst Sassy Giselle navigated her way through runners to win the Ranvet stake in 23.45.
You don’t often see the top grade runners getting into a mix up, but it certainly happened in the Casino RSM Club stake. Propela, Pretty Norris and Bralyn Stripes looked like they would fight it out one hundred metres from home, but then, they seemed to come together. Favourite Bacardi Breeze, who was smoking her pipe behind the leaders when the interference occurred, was able to sail past to grab the prize. She won by a length in 23.29 for Brian and Beryl Stephens.
Those who remember the old Redex trials would have been on Redex who won the Charcoal Inn Stake. As in those old car races, it was no place for the faint hearted as there was plenty of “bash and barge” The winner ran 27.95 for Dean Turley, and the time may have told the story.
Boss Enforcer kept up Glen and Jake Northfield’s good run by virtually leading all of the way in 23.30, while the distance stake again went to Tin Limited who grabbed Bralyn Sal on the line in 35.82.
Peter Simpson’s first starter Best Behave was never headed in running a good 27.58, and Mad Max finally broke through to win the JC Air Conditioning stake in 28.02 for Margaret Dwyer.
The two maidens were won by Tweed Diva for Paul Hull( 23.46) and Black Astro Boy (23.70) for Mark Maroney.
It is the club’s 75th Anniversary meeting next Friday, with the Anniversary Cup highlighting the meeting.
