Fast Archer Sets Time Standard In New Sensation Heats

The 2013 Carnival opened in style on Night (March 15) at , headed by eight heats of the inaugural Macro Meats series.

The time standard was set early, with prepared Assassin, pumping out a sizzling 29.97 all the way performance in the opening heat. A winner of eight from 16 starts prior to the series, the greyhound was the perfect candidate for the new event, with Carruthers thrilled at the son of 's performance.

Sole Victorian in the series, Super Colossal, lived up to his name in the second qualifier, running down race favourite Mystic Fancy in the straight. Owner and handler, Geoff Collins, was impressed with his charger's run, being the first time out of the boxes on the Glebe circuit.

Collins was confident before the race, saying that if left in the right position in later stages, Super Colossal was capable on running down early leaders. “He is one of the fastest dog we have ever trained, but he's early section may get him in to trouble eventually,” Collins said following the race.

qualifier Rigs, continued on his winning way, in the fourth heat. Striking trouble early, Owner-Trainer Ryan Tredway said following the event he was surprised at the time the greyhound recorded given the interference experienced. “He some how seems to find a way through all the trouble, I am wrapped with 30.07,” Tredway said.

Fast Archer claimed the sixth run-off and in doing so, became the fastest qualifier for next Friday night's Semi-Finals. Having now won five out of his last six starts, the Clay Mullins prepared runner is bound to start short than the $5.40 on offer in the heat.

Other heats winners on the night included Sanjuan Slim (30.19), Lachlan Loaded (29.98), Tricky Business (30.14) and Johnny Fire (30.03).

The first four from each heat will progress to next week's Semi-Finals, with the top two from each Semi to contest the $25,000 to the winner Final on March
