Future Stars Maiden Finalists Finally Ready To Go

's richest maiden greyhound final is set to be a quick one with some zippy qualifying times in last week's semi-final races.

Tomorrow afternoon's Multicam final at Maitland Showground will feature greyhounds with qualifying times as fast as 22.7 seconds from all corners of the State.

The eight qualifiers are not just in it for the State bragging rights though.

A $6000 prize and a 70 per cent cut of sweepstakes make it the second richest maiden race in the region behind the , scheduled for this .

sponsorship and promotions manager Fred Robertson said the club had overcome some adverse circumstances to set up what is sure to be a bumper meet on Thursday afternoon.

“We had a little hiccup when we started but we sorted that out early and now we are looking pretty good,” he said.

“There will be a fair few coming in from the country and we expect them to bring a few with them, so we are planning to cater for a reasonable crowd.”

The hiccup that threatened the Multicam Future Star heats was more than a minor inconvenience to the club.

Vandals cut the cables around the track in the hours leading up to the morning heats on October 16, delaying the semi-final and final of the event by a week.

Thursday's meet will be shared by two of the Maitland Greyhound Club's biggest races, with the $1500 final of the Ausure Country Cup also scheduled for the afternoon meet.

The Country Cup is another race set to bring trainers and greyhounds from across the State to the Maitland track, with heats run at country locations , Moree, , , Armidale, Tamworth, Wauchope and .

The Ausure Country Cup final will take place at 5.23pm, while the Multicam Future Stars final is schedule for 5.45pm.
