Gawler Greyhounds Redevelopment To Begin Within Weeks

Greyhound Racing SA () have announced that the first stage of the infrastructure upgrade has been approved and building works will commence within weeks. The kennelhouse facility will be redeveloped to address various issues with the current building and improve insulation against heat and noise.

Work on the kennelhouse is expected to commence from Wednesday 13th March. This initiative is just the first stage of ongoing works planned for the Gawler Club as identified in GRSA's Strategic Plan and will address the problems that have increasingly compromised at the venue in recent years.

Stage two infrastructure works at Gawler are currently the subject of a federal (RDA) funding application supporting GRSA's plan to undertake a full upgrade of patron facilities at the Club. In the event that the application is successful, the upgraded kennelhouse will then be converted further to accommodate a combination of trial kennelling, storage and maintenance facilities. Under that scenario, new raceday kennels will be located on the ground floor of a new patron facility accommodating a number of community user groups.

In the event that the federal funding application is unsuccessful, it is GRSA's intention to retain the changes to the upgraded kennelhouse for its racing operations and construct a simpler version of the patron facility which supports a more limited base of community users.

Projects that are eligible for RDA funding will be shortlisted in February, with formal approval of projects to be announced in July.

The kennelhouse works cannot be undertaken without interruption to the racing schedule, however GRSA is endeavouring to minimise the impact on participants during the six weeks that the project is expected to run.

From the commencement of those works, Mount Gambier will race every and every Sunday. The fortnightly Sunday timeslot at Mount Gambier will be temporarily cancelled. All remaining racing will be conducted at across Monday to Thursday. The Racing Department will continue to provide updates to participants during the course of these works.
