Greyhound Racing Victoria Stewards scratch three greyhounds using rarely used racing rule

Lara greyhound trainer has had three greyhounds scratched by GRV from a greyhound meeting under a rarely used rule.

Under a rarely used Greyhound Racing Australia Rule (GAR), Greyhound (GRV) Stewards scratched three greyhounds from the Geelong Greyhound meeting yesterday (Tuesday) after the official scratching deadline.

GRV stewards scratched the greyhounds Bit Of Fernando, Squiggly Izzy, and Jag Fernando “by Order of Stewards in accordance with GAR 19(4)(b)”.

All three greyhounds are owned and trained by Lara greyhound trainer Leslie Kenyon.

Another Kenyon-owned and trained runner, Squiggly Gus who is entered to race at Greyhounds today (Wednesday), is also expected to be scratched.

Greyhound Racing Australia Rule (GAR) 19.(4)(b) states that:

“If, at any time, the Controlling Body determines that a registered person is not a fit and proper person to be registered by the Controlling Body, the Controlling Body may cancel the person's registration, or suspend the person from participating in greyhound racing, until that person has satisfied the Controlling Body that the person is a fit and proper person to be registered by the Controlling Body.”

No other comment was forthcoming from GRV regarding the circumstances that caused them to implement the “fit and proper” rule against Kenyon.

This should now be the end of greyhound racing. So many poor greyhounds are treated so badly. Leslie Kenton is a very bad person who has shown cruelty to all animals in his care and should be absolutely banned from owning greyhounds. The poor little animals that were used as live bait – words escape me.
