GRNSW assures Lithgow Greyhound Track upgrade is moving forward

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) CEO Wayne Billett has assured participants that the long-awaited Lithgow Greyhound Track upgrade is progressing, with a business case for funding now submitted.
The update, delivered in GRNSW’s January 2025 newsletter, comes after years of delays and growing frustration from industry participants in the Central West.
“I know many participants on the western side of the Blue Mountains have been waiting as patiently as can be expected for some concrete news about the upgrade to the Lithgow track, and I am delighted to inform you all that GRNSW has worked through all the appropriate planning requirements, and we have now submitted a business case for funding approval,” Billett said.
The redevelopment, first announced in 2023, has faced significant delays, despite previous assurances that construction would begin in 2024.
The project is expected to deliver a modernised racing facility, filling the void left by the closure of Bathurst’s Kennerson Park and providing a much-needed venue for trainers and owners west of the Blue Mountains.
Acknowledging the lengthy process, Billett assured stakeholders that the project is on the verge of commencement.
“There is no escaping that this has been a very long process with several hurdles along the way, but we now are at the stage where all the planning has been completed, and once we have approval for funding, the project will get underway.”
While no firm start date was provided, the CEO reaffirmed GRNSW’s commitment to the project.
“It’s great news for participants in and around the region and in the Central West, and I know some may say they won’t believe it until the first shovel of dirt is turned, but I can assure you all that the Lithgow upgrade is going ahead, and we are now very close to commencement.”
With the business case now in the hands of funding authorities, industry participants are eager for a final confirmation that construction will begin.
