GRSA announces increased breeding rebates for SA breeders

Greyhound Racing SA () has announced an increase in rebates to support breeders in South Australia.

The SA breeding support program now offers a amount of $5,500 per litter, up from $2,800.

This initiative reflects GRSA's dedication to boosting the state's breeding industry by covering expenses such as stud fees, veterinary and costs, vaccinations and whelping expenses.

The enhanced rebate applies to all litters bred and whelped in South Australia following matings that occurred on or after April 1 2024.

GRSA CEO expressed the organisations commitment to the breeding sector amid recent challenges.

“While there are a variety of reasons for the recent downturn in breeding, GRSA is very to demonstrate its support for the local breeding industry,” Scott said.

“SA boasts a long and successful breeding industry, and to this day, we continue to produce an excellent proportion of quality breeding outcomes.

“GRSA wants to continue supporting breeders that are showing confidence in the future that GRSA and participants are collectively building.

“We believe that the increased breeding support will allow breeders to make the best possible breeding decisions and hopefully incremental improvements to overall quality will also materialise.”

Along with the raised rebate amount, current assistance programs such as waiving fees for whelping or litter registration and a $180 rebate for DNA expenses for breeding females will continue.

GRSA plans to recognise breeders who have stood by the industry in the past year by providing a special one time of $1,000 for each litter born during FY24 before the new $5,500 rebate comes into effect.

“We understand the challenges breeders have confronted during the past 12 months and this bonus payment is another way of acknowledging their vital contributions to our industry,” Scott said.
