Heidi Benz salutes in 2015 Vince Curry Memorial final

HEIDI BENZ gave her little-known sire Westmead Osprey his first Group winner on Saturday night, taking out the Memorial maiden over 520 metres at .

Her UK-bred father, a son of Westmead Hawk, now stands at stud in Queensland at eight years of age.

The black dog was a winner and holder overseas and has 40 litters on the ground in Australia.

Trained by Geoffrey Uhrhane, Heidi Benz began beautifully from box three and went straight to the early lead, with the favourite Crazy Sexy (box one) slipping into second position behind the front runner-around the first turn.

Out on the bunny the white-and-brindle bitch never put a paw wrong throughout the race, leading all the way to defeat Tony Brett's Crazy Sexy by one-and-three-quarter lengths in 30.83.

Heidi Benz went into the event having won her heat on February 7 in a handy 30.91 before finishing second in her semi-final last Saturday behind Norm The Storm.

She now has a whopping $42,440 in prizemoney earnings to her name – not bad for a bitch with just five career starts.

She adds her name to an honour roll littered with some fantastic former stars of the track such as Reliability (1996), (1997), Just The Best (1999), and (2009).

the advertised first prize was $50000, seems strange?

Seeing that the owners have bred 130 pups from 21 different bitches with Westmead Osprey since May 2012, I think he has a long way to go before he will be considered a good sire. I hope the owners are looking after all those pups.
