He’s On Fire, Aston Olenna win Nationals heats at Murray Bridge
He’s On Fire took out the first of two heats of the Group 3 National Straight Track Championship at Murray Bridge on Tuesday.
The Tim Richards-trained dog was sent out in the first South Australian heat at $4.40 odds with top greyhound betting sites.
He stormed down the 350m straight, holding the lead before a late challenge from Federal Outlaw ($7.50) on the post.
He’s On Fire saluted by the smallest of margins – 0.13 of a length – in front of Federal Outlaw and Aston Ziebell ($1.75) in a time of 19.21.
The win made it three straight for He’s On Fire, after two victories over the Gawler 400m trip.
The On Fire x She’s A Looper dog loves racing down the straight and now has 30 wins and 21 placings from 69 career starts.
In the other heat, Aston Olenna lined up paying $8 with the bulk of the support behind Cash On Delivery ($1.40).
Out of box six, the favourite jumped out to hit the lead and dictate terms before Aston Olenna ran him down to salute by a half-length in 19.05.
The David Peckham-trained dog has nine wins and four placings from 14 starts at the track and trip, with a total of 27 wins and 12 placings from 48 career races.
The final of the National Straight Track Championship will run on August 26 at Healesville with a $28,000 prize to the winner.
