High Earner Named AGRA June Greyhound Of The Month
AGRA's Greyhound of the Month for June 2009 is Queensland raced and trained sprint star High Earner.
The very talented young performer won his third Group final this year when he led all the way to win the Group 2 Queensland Derby at Albion Park. In 18 race starts, High Earner has now won more than $100,000 with wins also in the Group 3 Vince Curry Maiden at Ipswich and the Group 2 WA Derby final at Cannington.
After a lead up second to Surfin Silence High Earner won his heat of the Queensland Derby in a best of the night 30.09 defeating Trew Chase. He again showed his early speed and a fast middle section to record a best of the night 11.61.
Returning for the final High Earner from box four ran a 5.63 first section and then defied his hot rivals to run him down with an 11.54 middle section. He won in 29.96 only the third Derby winner in 17 years at Albion Park to break 30 seconds.
It was his fifth sub 30 second win at Albion Park in the year.
Fedex, winner of the Group 1 National Derby and Silver Chief, could not run him down finishing second and the talented Dashing Corsair finished a gallant third.
High Earner will now take on top grade gallopers in the Group 2 Gold Coast Cup and the Group 1 Winter Carnival Cup, both at Albion Park within the next three weeks.
