Good Odds Rascal is proving to be a handy chaser after taking his fifth-straight win on Tuesday night at Townsville.

Having taken out the 380m Final ($1.70) on June 6 by 1.75 lengths in a personal-best time of 21.55, the x Good Odds Meghan dog backed up this week and clocked 21.98 as a $1.60 favourite.

“He is just a hard-chasing dog,” the Bluewater-based trainer said.

“Pretty unfortunate to not beat his time, but it’s the way he does it that impresses me every time.”

After finding trouble in the start of the 380m contest, Good Odds Rascal lifted to work through the field, and clinch the win.

“He will be kept at that distance,” Hickmott said.

“With the way he comes out and with that corner it would just cream him because he does not have time to think about which way he needs to go.

“He has never been a good jumper ever since I have had him, because he is a really big dog.

“But he is a very smart dog and gets it done.”

Even as he continues to put in great performances, the dog’s trainer remains is taking it one week at a time with no major goals ahead.

“He will just keep racing here,” Hickmott said.

“He will race next Tuesday and then have three weeks off.

“All we are ever worried about is his next start and then we will plan from there.

“No matter what is put in front of him he seems to overcome it. He is always ready.”
