Keith Stanley Gets 4 Months For Second Positive Swab
On the day in question Spitfire Force won well in 30.47 over the 506m in the Lithgow Workmens Club Stakes Best 8, winning by 1.25 lengths as a $2.50 favourite from box 5 and collecting $270 first prizemoney.
The inquiry opened on the 27 January 2009 where evidence was taken from Mr K Stanley.
Mr. Stanley pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 83(2)(a) which provides:-
- R83 Racing greyhound to be drug free
- (2) The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound-
- (a) nominated to compete in an Event;
- shall present the greyhound free of any drug.
The particulars of the charge being that Mr Stanley did on 8 November 2008 present the greyhound Spitfire Force for an event being Race ( 7 ) Lithgow Workmens Club Stakes, held at Lithgow other than free of prohibited drugs in that the race day urine sample taken from the said greyhound has
returned on confirmatory analysis positive to Lignocaine,Phenylbutazone and Gamma-Hydroxy-Phenylbutazone. Rule 83(2)(a) Rules of Greyhound Racing).
After consideration on the matter of penalty Mr. Stanley was disqualified for a period of four(4) months.
The following factors carried weight in the Stewards' decision:
- Any penalty imposed must act as a deterrent.
- GHRRA Policy of drug free racing
- Prior misdemeanour in 2001 for the drug Lignocaine
- Disability pensioner
- 40 year industry participant
- Guilty Plea
Additionally NSW GHRRA Stewards disqualified Spitfire Force from its 1st placing in Race ( 7 ) at Lithgow.
