Leprechaun Miss Passes Away Aged 13
Despite a brief and unsuccessful racing career, Leprechaun Miss showed enough ability for her Little River owners Paul and Diane Bartolo to breed a few litters from her, and the decision proved a masterstroke.
“Her progeny she won over $1 Million dollars in prize money for us”, Paul said.
Leprechaun Miss made a name for herself when producing one of the best litters of the nineties when mated to Head Honcho that included the likes of Jones Junior, Clearwater Boy, Royal Assassin and Lynishia Star.
Another of her litters, to Hotshot, produced Leprechaun Yap, who has thrown superstars Betty’s Angel and Miss Mini Mouse, who filled the quinella in Australia’s premier race, the Group 1 Melbourne Cup in 2006.
“She hasn’t been well for a while and has been off her food. I’ve been cooking her steaks every night for the past two months because it’s the only thing she would eat. We’ll miss her a lot. Diane has been crying all morning and when it came to burying her in our yard today I was pretty upset”, Paul added.
The Bartolos will have a plaque made up for her in the near future.
