Like Wildfire misses track record but extends unbeaten run to six wins

Dual holder Like Wildfire didn't run his third track record in as many runs at Gosford on Tuesday night, but extended his unbeaten career record to six wins.

Like Wildfire's impressive career record remains unblemished, with six victories in as many starts and a combined winning margin of nearly 50 lengths.

The bred, owned and trained greyhound had set 600m track record of 33.88 at his previous run, taking almost five lengths off the previous track record at start number five.

At just his fourth race start, the son of and , made a name for himself in the record books with an outstanding performance recording new figures for the Gosford 603m track record in 33.96.

Returning to the Gosford 603m for start six in a Greyhound Racing New South Wales () Middle Distance Series race, Like Wildfire was the -555.56 long odds-on with greyhound betting apps, and ran accordingly.

Like Wildfire began only fairly in the $7,200 to-the-winner race, but quickly assumed the lead by the winning post the first time, before charging away for a 7.25 length win in 34.01.

The winner's time of 34.01, while a length slower than his own track record, is the second fastest ever recorded at Gosford; and still under the old track record of 34.21 seconds, which was jointly held by Blue Moon Rising and Punter's Bandit.

Like Wildfire is a litter brother to the 2023 Launching Pad quinella of Trooper Tears and Trapper Tears.

He has now had six career starts for a perfect six wins, and has earned $20,900, but there is no doubt there are much larger prizes ahead of him.
