Tonight’s 2014 Gosford Mega Maiden Series Final was taken out by the Robert Smith trained Lochinvar Impact in a steady 30.11.
As the talented group of youngsters arrived at the boxes, the market suggested that this would be a three dog contest. Lochinvar Impact, War Room for Orange based mentor Steve Jones and Moonshine Pearl for the in-form David Pringle kennel dominated the betting.
Reco Marlow threw a spanner in the works early with a 4.43 opening split to lead clearly. Lochinvar Impact got a clear run early and loomed as an instant danger to the early leader. While the leaders got clear, Moonshine Pearl was checked out the back after stumbling shortly after boxrise.
Lochinvar Impact quickly put pay to Reco Marlow and was left a long way in front. War Room managed to thread his way through the field and was an enormous run to finish second after finding a lot of early bother.
Although the time of 30.11 in the final was average, the 29.86 and 29.87 heat runs from Lochinvar Impact and War Room suggest that both of these dogs have extremely bright futures.
