Logan To Be The New Home Of Greyhound Headquarters In Queensland

Queensland Member for Woodridge Desley Scott and Racing Minister Tim Mulherin today announced that the future of South East is destined to be at Cronulla Park, Logan.

Mr Mulherin said following a meeting Monday between representatives of the greyhound industry and Limited (RQL) it is clear the industry overwhelmingly supports the development of the greyhound headquarters at Cronulla Park.

Mr Mulherin today confirmed the Government's strong support for a stand-alone racing facility at Logan and said he anticipated RQL would have details of a revised Industry Infrastructure Plan to submit to Government by the end of the week.

“Racing Queensland Chairman wrote to me yesterday detailing that it is now the preferred option of RQL and the greyhound racing industry that Cronulla Park be developed into a brand new greyhound racing facility,” Mr Mulherin said.

“I am pleased to announce today the government fully supports the option put forward by RQL on behalf of industry, to make Logan the new home of greyhound racing in South East Queensland.

“I would like to thank the local Member Desley Scott and the local greyhound community who never gave up on their fight to see this facility come to Cronulla Park.”

Ms Scott said she has long been advocating on behalf of the greyhound industry and local community is delighted with the outcome.

“It's been a long fight but finally we've done it,” said Ms Scott.

“I have always maintained that Cronulla Park is an ideal site for a new greyhound headquarters.

“Construction of a standalone facility at Cronulla Park will many benefits to the local community.

“This is a multi- proposal that will provide an boost to the local construction industry as well as ongoing jobs through the operation and maintenance of the track.

“I'd like to also mention that the Cronulla Park development has strong support from both the Logan City Council and the Logan Chamber of Commerce.”

Mr Mulherin said the Government was pleased to throw support the Logan option following a meeting of industry representatives and RQL held yesterday.

“The meeting was attended by 24 industry stakeholders representing major clubs and trainers, as well as grass root participants,” he said.

“The greyhound industry has been in limbo due to ongoing legal action surrounding the of and uncertainty over the redevelopment.

“But with yesterday's almost unanimous vote (one dissenting vote) in of the Cronulla Park development the future of greyhounds in Logan is looking very positive,” he said.

Mr Mulherin said the Queensland Government and RQL will now work through the following actions so this proposal can progress as urgently as possible.

RQL will submit a revised Industry Infrastructure Plan to Government which incorporates the proposal to move the Greyhound headquarters to Logan and the implications of this on Deagon.

RQL will then submit a business plan to Government seeking approval for the construction of the facility at Cronulla Park as part of the revised Industry Infrastructure plan.

Don’t hold your breath, there’d rather butter the trainers up with more prize money… Which is good, but the dogs go stale at the same two tracks every week
