Loren Harborne guns for Golden Egg glory with Chasing The Line

THE best chasers from the top kennels around the nation will descend on on Saturday night for the heats of the , but one local trainer will be chasing her dreams of glory with the only greyhound she has in work.

Central Coast trainer Loren Harborne has the talented Chasing The Line engaged in the eighth heat, arguably the most open race on the card. The son of and Lily Appeal is drawn in box six against classy greyhounds Hostile (box one), (box two), Winsome Prince (box three), Zipping Willow (box seven) and Spring Leaf (box eight).

“The draw will make it tough with a bit of speed drawn on the outside of him, but you have got to give it a go and we will know after race eight on Saturday,” Harborne said.

“I actually think he is drawn in the hardest of the heats but he does have ability and anything can happen in those types of races, so I thought I would put him in.”

Amazingly for Harborne, the 32 kilogram greyhound is the first that she has trained, having owned dogs for many years.

“He is the first dog that I have trained on my own but I have grown up around greyhounds, my dad trained plenty through the years so I have already been around them.

“It is enjoyable being the trainer now. He is an easy dog to train so it makes it easier and I have got good help from my family and friends.”

Chasing The Line has bounced back to form recently, scoring at Wentworth Park two starts back in 29.96 before finishing a narrow second to Fantastic Sprial last Saturday night.

Harborne says that her charge has plenty of potential, but his chances in the Golden Easter Egg series will all depend on how he handles himself early in his heat.

“He has a fair bit of ability but with him it all comes down to what he does at box rise — he needs to be leading or up near the front to show his best. But it is exciting, he could possibly be my first runner in an Egg.”

The white and black dog has come along in leaps and bounds since joining Harborne's kennel last October, after previously being under the care of Frank Cini and John Vanderburg throughout the earlier parts of his career.

“He has been in my kennels since last year, I got him back after he had a few starts,” she said, “I have got two at home but he is the only one racing. I actually think he is just a dog that enjoys the smaller kennels and having that one on one attention, he has just thrived since he has come back.”

A winner of five of his 16 career starts, Chasing The Line has a sizzling personal best of 29.67 over the track and trip at Wentworth Park so is more than capable of matching it with most greyhounds on his night.

Harborne, who bought Chasing The Line as a 10-month-old pup, says the nerves are starting to creep in ahead of the big challenge on the weekend.

“It is exciting, but I am very nervous at the same time. I just hope that he gets around safe and we will see what happens.”

Chasing The Line is currently $13 to win his heat and $161 to win the Golden Easter Egg final with which are giving new customers up to $200 in bonus bets to place on the series upon sign-up
