Mackay’s Trifecta Hopes Dashed
Richmondvale trainer Jason Mackay will tonight be looking to take out the Group 3 Pages Event Equipment Sydney Cup over 720 metres at Wentworth Park.
After qualifying three finalists for the Group three event, Mackay was yesterday (October 13) forced to scratch Zipping Jewel which tore a hip support muscle in last Saturday's heats.
“She appears to have done it when crossing Echelon and Yella Mustard last week,” Mackay said.
“All credit to the dog, she could have tailed out and finished last, so she was a big run to finish second.”
The scratching will mean Mackay will be searching for a quinella with finalists Zipping Lad and Yella Mustard still engaged.
NSW GBOTA sponsors Centrebet have Zipping Lad favourite at $1.65*, fixed odds, after the son of Malfoy won heat one of the Pages Event Equipment Sydney Cup in 42.33.
Meanwhile Yella Mustard ($15.00*) having previously saluted at headquarters in 42.31will ensure the astute trainer remains a chance of finishing one, two and pocketing over $30,000 in prizemoney.
