Mackenna soars to Golden Easter Egg glory at Wentworth Park
In a show of speed and dominance, Mackenna, the greyhound sensation, triumphed in the prestigious Group 1 Golden Easter Egg Final (520m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday evening, achieving an impressive clean sweep.
The remarkable canine talent, reportedly purchased for a six-figure sum in 2023, justified her high price by earning an impressive $350,000 for her dedicated trainer, Michelle Sultana, and her new owner, George Alvaro, from Sydney.
Under the expert guidance of Sultana, who took charge of her training during the Easter Egg campaign, Mackenna displayed her skills, outshining her competitors.
The talented sprinter completed the run in 29.33 seconds, solidifying her position as the second-fastest dog to conquer the prestigious Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg, with the fastest time coming from Tommy Shelby in 2021.
Mackenna's stellar performance now places her among the ranks of racing champions. Taking a lead right from the start, Mackenna showcased dominance by clocking impressive split times of 5.35 and 13.62 seconds.
Despite a challenge from Zipping Megatron towards the end of the race, Mackenna maintained her position and secured victory with a margin of one and a quarter lengths.

Her previous trainer, Paul Abela, who traveled to witness her victory, was overwhelmed with emotion, hailing her as a “superstar.”
As the clear favourite going into the race after setting records in both the heat and semi-final races with times of 29.20 and 29.28, respectively, Mackenna started from box two. , with the top greyhound betting sites offering punters $1.90 for the win.
Michelle Sultana, filled with joy and relief, praised Mackenna's determination. She recognised the track and competition from racers, but Mackenna's persistence proved unbeatable.
With this victory, Mackenna's stellar record now stands at 12 wins out of 17 races, winning all four races with her new team.
She joins a group of racing greats like Rapid Journey, Brett Lee, Fernando Bale, and She's A Pearl as she solidifies her place in the sports history books.
