Mark Azzopardi Disqualified For Two Years
Greyhound Racing New South Wales (GRNSW) released a statement today that multiple group-winning trainer, Mark Azzopardi, has been disqualified for a period of two years.
Azzopardi was found guilty by GRNSW Stewards earlier in the month of GAR 83 (2) (a) after analysts’ reports found benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, in the urine sample taken from Transcend Time after the greyhound took out a race at Maitland on the 28th March 2013.
Azzopardi had faced suspension since the inquiry originally opened on the 28th June 2013, with his greyhounds transferred into the name of Preston Rowles. However, Azzopardi found himself back in the spotlight last month after his former star chaser, Jagger Swagger, was scratched from Maitland when he accompanied the greyhound to the track on race day.
GRNSW stated in their press release that Azzopardi has been notified of his right of appeal.
Efforts were made to contact Azzopardi for comment tonight (Friday) however he was unavailable.
The Australian Racing Greyhound will continue to make efforts to contact Azzopardi over the next few days to bring participants and readers up to date with the latest news.
