Murray Bridge Cup series rescheduled to avoid speedway clashes

South Australia Greyhound News

The 2025 Group 3 Murray Bridge Cup series has been rescheduled, moving forward by one week in March to avoid conflicts with nearby speedway events.

Originally set for March 10 and 16, the heats will now take place on Sunday night, March 2, and the $36,000 Group 3 final will be held on Sunday, March 9, during the public holiday weekend.

The decision, made in consultation with Sky Racing, Greyhound Clubs Australia, Murray Bridge Greyhound Racing Club (GRC), and Gawler GRC, ensures the series avoids competition with speedway events while maintaining focus on Murray Bridge GRC’s only Group 3 feature race of the year.

The new schedule also sees Murray Bridge host the final as a daytime meeting, replacing Mount Gambier’s time slot.

Additional changes were made to accommodate other venues. Gawler will now host a day meeting on Friday, March 7, while Angle Park takes over the Monday night slot on March 10.

Mount Gambier will host a Sunday night meeting on March 9, racing until sunset due to the venue’s lack of lighting.

Later in the month, Murray Bridge will hold a daytime meeting on March 14, and Gawler will host a night meeting on March 16.

The full list of adjustments includes:

  • Heats for the Murray Bridge Cup on Sunday night, March 2.
  • The Murray Bridge Cup final on Sunday day, March 9, replacing Mount Gambier.
  • Gawler’s meeting moved to Friday day, March 7.
  • Mount Gambier hosting Sunday night, March 9, replacing Gawler.
  • Angle Park taking Monday night, March 10, replacing Murray Bridge.
  • Murray Bridge hosting Friday day, March 14, replacing Gawler.
  • Gawler hosting Sunday night, March 16, replacing Murray Bridge.

  • These changes ensure the Murray Bridge Cup retains its prominence, providing fans with an exciting Group 3 series while accommodating both greyhound racing and speedway enthusiasts.
