Nightmare Mistake Puts End To Dream Run

A mistake that I'm sure will be giving trainer nightmares for years to come, brought an end to the fairy tale run of (Wilfred x Melodious Blues) before the boxes even opened in Saturday night's 2008 Golden Easter Egg Semi Finals.

Wilodious Blues was a late withdrawal by order of the under rule 31(b) when the handler, , notified stewards upon arrival at the track that she had brought the wrong dog.

GHRA Stewards advised they will be making further inquiries in to the circumstances which led to late withdrawal.

For owners P Christiansen and A Bagnall and trainer Richard Riley; this brought a nightmare end to Wilodious Blues' triumphant surge through the series. Indeed as reported in our 2008 Golden Easter Egg Semi Final Preview, Wilodious Blues had a fantastic chance of making the finals from what looked the weaker of the 4 semi's.

Reports to Australian Racing Greyhound.com suggest that trainer Richard Riley's partner, Christine Kay; inadvertantly drove the wrong dog to the track when a helper loaded the incorrect dog in the car. In scenes that I'm sure were in stark contrast to the jubilant celebrations and tears that flowed following the Wilodious Blues' stunning career best 30.01 Heat win; were said to be devastated at missing their chance contest the Easter Egg Final while handler, Christine Kay, was understandably inconsolable.
