Nora’s Boy wins Taree leg of Million Dollar Chase series
Nora's Boy scored an upset victory in the Taree regional final of the 2023 Million Dollar Chase (MDC) on Wednesday, giving trainer Shaun Guthrie a winner on his birthday.
Guthrie, who turned 32 on the day, was elated with the win of Nora's Boy, who started at double-figure odds of +1000 with greyhound bookmakers.
“I thought he was a great chance after his run in the heat and told the boys to back him.
“When he came up at $16 yesterday while I was in the pub after work, I had to have something on him. Then he went out to $19, and I jumped in again.
“And, with it being my birthday today, it's been a great day.”
Nora's Boy was able to capitalise on interference to the two favourites, and trail +6000 longshot Weffalee Shield in the run before overpowering that dog in the run home.

Nora's Boy, by La Grand Quality out of Cyclone Nora, has had 24 starts for seven win and 11 placings, earning connections $22,290 in prizemoney.
The Taree Million Dollar Chase final win was the first win for the red brindle dog since transferring into Guthrie's kennel 12 starts ago in mid-June.
Nora's Boy, Sunshine Lily and Weffalee Shield became the latest greyhounds to qualify for the Million Dollar Chase Semi Finals at Wentworth Park.
They join Victorian-trained greyhound Fire Hose, Time Chariot and Taw Commander who qualified through the Goulburn MDC Regional Final.
Disappointingly, the Goulburn leg of the Million Dollar Chase series was run as a straight out final after only eight nominations were received for the regional heats of the series.
Those six greyhounds are joined by four greyhounds who get a special exemption straight into the semi-finals through the 2023 National Sprint Championship final.
Saige Tenniele, Aussie Rocks, Tinker Norm, and Postman Pat all qualified for the Million Dollar Chase semi finals as the first four greyhound across the line in the National Sprint final.
Three more greyhounds will qualify on Thursday night through the 2023 Group 1 Dapto Megastar final.
The MDC semi-finals will be held at Wentworth Park on October 6, with the $1,000,000 to-the-winner final run a week later.
