Wentworth Park is excited to announce next week’s Group 2 Final fields following two heats of the Globe Memorial Plate (720m) and three heats of the Multiquip Bob Payne Summer Sprint (520m) tonight (January 7).
Both of the Group 2 events attracted a high calibre of runners in tonight’s heats with racing enthusiasts looking forward to the Saturday January 14 Finals.
First to be conducted were the two heats of the Globe Memorial Plate, which saw Victorian Echelon qualify fastest, taking out heat one in 42.54.
Jason Mackay trained Zipping Lad continued his fruitful summer winning heat two over He’s My Future and Thrilling Frank in 42.64.
Mackay said following the box draw he was pleased where both his finalists had drawn.
“Given the red doesn’t jump I think my two are going to position well early.
“Zipping Lad has had a big few months but he will readjust back to the Wentworth Park start next week,” Mackay said.
“I think this year will be his year, he is still a few runs off his peak but I am tipping he will have a big one.” Mackay offered about Zipping Lad.
Speaking after the box draw trainer Michael Patterson said he was extremely pleased with the greyhound’s efforts behind Echelon.
“I was very impressed with his first 700 run,” Patterson said.
“He has gone 42.74 on converted time and I think with a little weight to come off him and the right draw out wide, we will give it a shake next week.”

The Multiquip Bob Payne Summer Sprint also brought about excitement trackside as the reigning Golden Easter Egg champion Radley Bale, Victorian Group 1 winner Kilty Lad and NSW Sprinter Oaks Road all won their respective heats.
Radley Bale had to hold off a late charge from Young Snozz in heat one, with the run pleasing connections of both runners.
“He was a big run Young Snozz, he took five lengths off Radley Bale and it is well documented what Radley Bale can do,” Young Snozz trainer Jason Mackay said.
“We know we have a couple of lengths up our sleeve for next week, Graeme (Bate) just wanted to get them through tonight, they will be cherry ripe next week,” Camilleri said.
“Drawing box eight isn’t ideal for Radley Bale, I honestly think Oaks Road will be the one to beat on box draw, but he (Radley Bale) did win the Egg from box 7 so I guess he remains a chance.”
