A greyhound field that represents a competitive blend of hardened race campaigners; touches of absolute brilliance and the promise of a real talented up-and-comer will contest the inaugural running of the New Zealand Top Gun Invitation at the Addington Raceway tonight.
The potent Balcairn training combination of Dave and Jean Fahey hold a vice-like grip on the $40,000 race after having five-quality chasers selected for the 520m contest.
Spearheading their team is the freakish Winsome Ashley, a winner of four Group 1 races this year.
“Happy with her draw and I’m real happy with what she has done since her last race,” said Dave Fahey in reference to her normal high class effort in winning the New Zealand Futurity.
They have a handy back-up team of Aussie Opawa, Winsome Daisy, Fanta Claws and the exciting young bitch Miss Koonawarra.
“Obviously this is Miss Koonawarra’s toughest career assignment, but I do believe she is right up there with the best of them.”
Rakaia trainer Craig Roberts is confident of a bold showing from his classy chaser Turbine Bale.
“I reckon his race will be decided in the first 60/70 metres. If he’s in front down the back I can’t see anything else getting past him his forte is his midsection race speed,” Roberts said.
