Pedrosa Returns Home And Back To The Winners Circle

Super Western Australian sprinter, , took out the $12,000 Greyhounds W.A at Saturday night. The win was the dogs first in over two months, but a short let-up combined with a return to the Cannington track has seen him for owner-trainer .

The two week series kicked off with four heats being held the Saturday prior. Heat one saw Off The chart defeat Blue Goose in 30.54 before Oxley Ruler nosed out in 30.66. The third heat was won by Spring Legend who ran 30.64 with Surf A Coin runner-up. Pedrosa was in action in the fourth and final heat, drawn the rails, but was out sped by Uno Kendra out wide who held on to win in 30.35, the quickest of the heats.

That left a high quality field to battle out the final. Pedrosa ($1.80) came up with box one, and would start a clear favourite, despite going down in his heat. Uno Kendra ($4.10) was given a good chance of repeating the dose from another wide draw, while veteran Blue Goose ($7.10) was the only other runner under double figures.

At box rise, Pedrosa stepped beautifully and it wasn't long before his he made his customary movement towards the outside. This cut off Spring Legend ($13.70) and Oxley Ruler($23.10), and left the white dog a couple in front around the first turn. Uno Kendra and Brencole Bale ($26.10) were trying to carve across from wide draws and behind the runaway leader.

From that point on the race was Pedrosa's to lose, and he didn't disappoint winning by five lengths in a dashing 30.26. Brencole Bale held on for second, with Off The Chart putting in another strong run to grab third. Oxley Ruler finished just behind the placegetters, with Surf A Coin not far away either. Uno Kendra couldn't finish the race off and faded back with Spring Legend at the tail.

Pedrosa's record at the Cannington circuit now shows an incredible 15 wins and 5 placings from only 20 attempts. His stakemoney increases to almost $150,000 with this win. The SA-Bred son of and Brooklyn Rain now has five feature race victories, as well as a second in the Vic Peters Classic in Sydney and a fourth in the held at Angle Park back in September.

With the 2010 in the not-too-distant future, it will take a mighty greyhound to topple Paul Stuart's charger, when Group One racing comes to Cannington in March.

In the meantime, West Australian greyhound followers can look forward to the Express Stakes final on Thursday over Mandurah's 490m, and the W.A Bred Peel series kicks off with six heats there Tuesday night.
