Preston Lee produces miracle comeback with a five winning streak
Back in November of 2021, grave concerns were held over the future career of short-course star Preston Lee, after snapping his front leg which caused him to be on the sidelines for a period of five months. Upon his return to the race track in a 324m 2/3rd grade event at Richmond Straight back in April, he etched out King of Hearts in a gutsy display from box eight, however many weren't sure if his leg would hold up or how long his career would continue for.
Fast-forward nine-months later and his absence is a mere distant memory after the son of Brett Lee and Fancy Ruby chalked up his fifth straight win at Richmond yesterday over the 400m in a Masters event, clocking a best of the day time in 22.60. After stepping beautifully from the inside alley, the 35kg heavyweight gapped his rivals by seven and a half lengths at the finish, defeating fellow kennel mate Remnats.
Understandably, trainer Rob Tyler was overjoyed with his charge's performance since his comeback.
“He literally snapped his front leg that dog. It's a miracle he's even made it back to the track.”
“He's just a marvel. Since he snapped his leg, he's had 26 starts for 15 wins and 6 placings, including making the Richmond Cannonball final and “The Thunderbolt” final and ran a track record.”
“You'd certainly love to have a few more like him.”
Owned by The Chasers Syndication, managed by Monique Annetts, yesterday's victory was the 28th of his career from start 80 and his 10th win from his past 13 attempts. After commencing his career in Queensland, “Preston” has certainly taken a shine to the Richmond circuit, saluting in 22 of his 43 appearances.
Having just turned four years of age on 16th December 2022, this old timer appears to be showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
