Proven Polly Will Start In Saturday’s Australian Cup Final
Following a veterinary clearance and a subsequent satisfactory trial at The Meadows last night, third favourite for this Saturday nights MTD Australian Cup, Proven Polly has been cleared to take her place in the $219,000 final.
Going against every thing Thompson declared after the 2008 Melbourne Cup fiasco when he was highly critical of Darren McDonald for starting Surgeon in the Melbourne Cup Final after Surgeon clearly failed to chase in this heat win. Thompson has now gone out of his way to qualify Proven Polly to run in the Australian Cup Final despite Proven Polly putting in a “Surgeon-esque” performance in her Australian Cup Semi Final last week.
Proven Polly had been given a 5 day stand down following a post race veterinary examination and was subsequently ordered to undergo a satisfactory trial for failing to chase by reason of injury, during her Australian Cup Semi Final win.
Exiting the inside alley in her satisfactory trial, Proven Polly pushed up to lead the half field at the post the first time and held off the late charge from kennel mate Lady Moscato running 30.29 for the 525m trip.
Proven Poly will exit box 8 next to the other Jason Thompson trained greyhound El Galo who is likely to start one of the shortest priced favourites since Rookie Rebel ($1.40) in 1958.
Australian Racing Greyhound readers will surely appreciate the irony if Proven Polly was to be El Galo‘s undoing in Saturday night’s big final.
and the dog finished last. thats normally what happens when a dog is still suffering from an injury, but its all about the money not the dog, isnt that right jason
