QRIC $4.3 million program tracks Queensland greyhounds full life cycle

The Queensland Racing Commission () has today confirmed that the new newly implemented online licensing system will enable full life cycle tracking of Queensland greyhounds.

Since its establishment, the QRIC has invested heavily in the development of an online registration and licensing system to drive process improvements and efficiencies and high standards.

Queensland Commissioner Ross Barnett said the system was now complete and it equipped the Commission with the ability to collect, maintain and appropriately share information relating to Queensland racing licensees in the three codes of racing thoroughbred, harness and greyhound.

“The $4.295 million system also has the added advantage of achieving one of the Commission's most important integrity tasks – to track racing greyhounds from birth to de-registration with our own data,” he said.

“The implementation of an online licensing environment and greyhound animal registration module is an important milestone for the Commission and we can now deliver holistic greyhound life-cycle tracking.

While the Queensland greyhound industry has come a long way since the days when the country was shocked by the scandal, this system will ensure the Commission has the integrity tools it needs to monitor the industry and ensure that it lives up to the high animal welfare standards we and the public expect.

To support the lifecycle tracking of greyhounds, a three-tiered model of breeding categories, was introduced in July last year. These categories cover the lifecycle of the greyhound from service through to training for engagement in racing.

The implementation of these final online activities represents the completion of a four year long project.

“It may have taken four years to get right, but this is our system from the ground up that includes provisions for the three codes of racing, and tells the story of individual racing animals,” he said.

All racing industry participants can also apply for and renew their licences online including any upgrades for all categories of racing relating thoroughbreds, greyhounds, harness and bookmaker's licences.

Participants can register a stable or kennel address online, and online greyhound management is now comprehensive and includes the following tasks;

  • Register a Service
  • Register a whelping
  • Register a litter
  • Naming
  • Register off-track illnesses and injuries
  • Transfer of Ownership (within QLD and interstate)
  • Change of kennel (within QLD and interstate)
  • Register a Breeding Female
  • Exemption applications for breeding females
  • Register vaccinations
  • Deregistrations/Retirements
