Rapid Sally Returns To The 600 And Form At Casino
A return to the staying distance helped Rapid Sally regain her best form at the Casino meeting last Friday.
Since resuming from a spell she has been thereabouts in sprinting events, but going over the 620 metres allowed her to take up the leader's position, and free wheeling with a lap to go, she held a big lead.
Slowly but surely seasoned performer True Buzz set off after her, but the winning post loomed too quickly and Rapid Sally was able to hang on and score by a head. Shane Ensby prepares the winner, and it was her second victory over the distance with more in store.
Speedy performer Moral Hit showed he has a promising future when he took out the Madsen's Gourmet Meats fifth grade event. Following a best of the night win at Lismore the previous Tuesday, Moral Hit looked a “moral” and was soon in front after getting around a jamming pack. Scooting away down the back, he raced away to score by 8 1/2 lengths and in doing so, clocked the best of the day over the short course – 22.91.
A handy trial on Monday night had track watchers racing to get on Bacardi Breeze in the opening race, and she didn't let her supporters down. Although a little tardy at the start, she was soon in control going down the back straight, and went on to win by three lengths. The Toni Northfield trained sprinter ran 23.27, a handy time for a maiden.
Training honours on the day went to Brad Northfield who landed a double. Kidatee Alf has been a model of consistency and he went staright to the lead in the Casino RSM Club Free For All. The issue was never in doubt as he was running a fast 27.39 up front, and he scored by two lengths. Later, Bralyn Lilly was able to come again to take out the Ranvet stake. After leading, she was headed on the circle but when the leaders jammed, Lilly got around them and went on to win by 1 3/4 lengths.
After a string of minor placings, Supreme Ticket rewarded trainer Trevor Salmoni witha solid win in the Westlawn Finance maiden clocking 23.52, whilst Lucy's Image ran 23.26 in winning the Tweed Heads to Casino Final for Keith Boan.
Robyn's Karanne who had been contesting Free For All's over the 411 metre trip, appreciated the drop in class to take out the Casino Rural Traders fifth grade in 27.74 for Pat Lavis, and Maxie's Charoit ran his best race on home soil when he ran 27.50 for Neil Falls.
Kissy Bo had been knocking on the door and finally broke through in the 484 metre Mc Donald's Pharmacy maiden. The Beverley De Bono trained bitch railed well through at the first bend before going on to win by 2 1/4 lengths.
The Zammit connection took the short trip down from Queensland to pick up an “easy” grand when Speedy Delivery “delivered” in winning the Charcoal Inn stayers by 11 3/4 lengths. Having his first look at the track, he ran 35.59.
Casino will race again on Friday afternoon with the opening race at 12.30pm.
