Respected SA Identities Form Inaugural Industry Taskforce Committee
Six highly respected SA greyhound racing identities have agreed to form the inaugural Industry Taskforce Committee and will meet for the first time in late July.
Judi Hurley, Ivan Broadbridge, Laurie Cahalan, Gina Hall, Howard Ashton and Bruce Lellman will serve on the taskforce and through consultation and collaboration with participants help the industry in its transition through the recently announced industry reforms.
The Taskforce will also lend their experience to addressing some of the key challenges facing the industry. They include the recent decline of SA breeding, broadening industry appeal and the industry's reliance on volunteers.
Key matters to be considered by the Taskforce will include:
- Industry investment in training, trialling and pre-training facilities
- Guidance in the implementation of strategic reforms
- Measures for supporting participation (including regional participation)
- Allocation of South Australian Greyhound Industry Funds
- General racing and operations matter
The Taskforce includes industry members drawn from the key regions where reform will require more significant transition, as well as people with broader industry experience.
GRSA Chief Executive Officer, Matt Corby said the Industry Taskforce Committee will play a vital role in providing the industry with a voice to ensure the collective views of participants are adequately represented.
“Reform is essential in order to ensure the sustainability of the industry and will help pave the way for future industry growth.
“GRSA is delighted to have attracted such high calibre industry leaders onto the taskforce and welcomes the enthusiasm and commitment they've shown in accepting a place on the taskforce.
“The Taskforce brings together a good cross section of the current greyhound racing industry, with breeders, trainers and administrative participants all represented.
“They will work with participants and GRSA to help shape the reforms and bring greyhound racing in South Australia into a new era.”
The establishment of the Taskforce was announced as a key part of the industry reforms, which also included prize money increases, additional funding for the SA Bred Program, major investment in training, trialling and racing-related capital works and a supplementary travel fee for existing trainers in regional areas.
