Spud Regis Storms In To Group 3 SA Derby Final Favouritism

Victorian chaser Spud Regis stamped himself as a real star of the future with a dominant display in the Group 3 Coca Cola SA Derby last night at Angle Park.

The Andrea Dailly trained flyer blitzed his rivals in a best of night 29.63 for the 515m journey leading throughout and winning by over 3 lengths from kennel mate Grigorieva Bale with fellow Victorian Peter Rocket for trainer Keith Hellmuth finishing third.

Spud Regis flew the lids early running a sizzling 4.32 to the winning post on the first occasion and from there was never headed recording his 7th win from just 10 starts and claiming the $25,000 first prize.

The Dailly’s intimated that the Triple M Adelaide Cup would be “Spuds” next mission with the heats to be run at Angle Park on October 4 and the Group 1 Final on October 11 however he will be running into the star of the Dailly kennel in Heston Bale who bounced back into the winner’s list last night and also looks on target for the $100,000 feature.

Heston Bale was surprisingly beaten last week at his first look at the Angle Park track however he made amends in a big way last night, coming from well back and wide he rounded up his rivals including Group 1 winner Zara Zulu and raced away for an impressive victory in 29.99 for the 515m journey.
