Shanlyn Prince Goes To Stud

Champion sprinter Shanlyn Prince has been retired to stud. Trained by Group race king , Shanlyn Prince departs the racing scene with 24 wins, 10 seconds and six thirds from 62 starts, and around $300,000 in stakes.

The January 2005 -Shanlyn Maddy dog contested 10 black type finals in an illustrious career, highlighted by his win in the 2007 at Sandown Park. He also snared the 2007 Silver Bullet at The Meadows.

He will commence stud duties shortly at McDonald's state-of-the-art racing/stud complex in Devon Meadows.

Owned by and Dennis Kolokathis, Shanlyn Prince started racing in September 2006 and within a year was rated one of Australia's premier speedsters.

He was also runner-up in the 2007 G1 Paws of Thunder and 2007 G2 Shootout, and a finalist in the 2008 G1 , 2007 G1 Topgun, 2008 G2 , 2008 G2 Warrnambool Cup, 2008 G2 Bob Payne Winter Stake and 2007 G3 Perth Cup Consolation. Shanlyn Prince also qualified for the 2007 G1 Hobart Thousand, but was scratched due to injury.

Shanlyn Prince registered outstanding best times on an assortment of tracks: Sandown Park 515m (29.60sec – twice), The Meadows 525m (29.84sec), Wentworth Park 520m (30.01sec), Cannington
530m (30.40sec), 520m (30.37sec), Geelong 457m (25.67sec), 440m (24.85sec) and Warrnambool 450m (24.99sec).

The “Prince” was the “King of Sandown Park” notching 10 wins from 19 starts at the Lightwood Road venue.

“He's raced against the best… He's done enough,” Larsen said.

McDonald was glowing in his praise of Shanlyn Prince, stating he was the fastest son of Token Prince at Sandown Park.

“His record speaks for itself, and with a little more luck he would have been one of the all-time greats,” McDonald said.

“He was sensational during last year's Superdog Series, and was in brilliant form leading up to it, including being beaten only a whisker in the Paws of Thunder.”

“He has an excellent temperament, and I have no doubt he has a highly promising stud career ahead of him” said Mcdonald.
