She’s A Pearl’s last hurrah could be The Phoenix

She's a Pearl aiming to go out on top in The Phoenix
She’s A Pearl’s handler Paul Mills said the great bitch could run her final race in The Phoenix at The Meadows this Saturday night.

The record-breaking track career of She’s A Pearl could come to an end in typically stunning fashion in The Phoenix at The Meadows on Saturday night.

The three-year-old – who broke Fanta Bale’s No.1 standing for earnings last month – could run her last race in Melbourne and bow out with $2.376 million to her name if she wins, picking up $1 million for her efforts.

“In The Phoenix, I’m not sure if it’ll be her last race or not,” Andy and Jodie Lord’s handler Paul Mills told Australian Racing Greyhound.

“It depends. Andy will make the decision.”

The stage is set for connections of She’s A Pearl’s to celebrate a remarkable finish to her career.

She has been installed as the $3 favourite with online bookmakers and has drawn the coveted box one.

But just as importantly, she is in good condition after her last-start fourth in the fourth Melbourne Cup heat at Sandown on November 19.

“(She’s looking) good. She’s been there and had a look at the track. She’s well,” Mills said.

Silver Chief Final winner Amron Boy has drawn box four.

While that lane is not ideal for the star young two-year-old who loves being on the rail, connections would be stoked at his winning time of 29.45 seconds, and the fact he got through unscathed.

“As long as he gets around safely, then we can move on to The Phoenix,” owner Brett Nye told this publication before the weekend.
