She’s That Girl storms home to win the New Sensation Final at Wentworth Park

Emerging star She’s That Girl produced a breathtaking finish to take out the Group 3 Simply Limelight New Sensation Final (520m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, launching a huge run from off the speed to remain unbeaten at the track.

Trained by Peter Lagogiane and owned by the Verysharp Racing Syndicate, the fawn daughter of Hooked On Scotch x Barbados Express came into the race with five wins from six starts and stamped her authority with an electrifying display at $3.70 odds with the top online bookmakers.

After slipping slightly at the start and finding herself in traffic, She’s That Girl railed through bravely on the first corner before storming home down the straight to nab tearaway leader Canya Sapphire in the shadows of the post, stopping the clock in 29.85.

“She just slipped a little bit at the start, and I thought ‘oh no’,” Howard said post-race.

“But when the rails opened up, she got into third and once she straightened for home, I knew how strong she is. I was cheering from behind the boxes.”

The win confirmed her class in just her seventh career start and proved her versatility, having previously led all the way in most of her wins.

The performance now sets She’s That Girl on a new course, with connections confirming a tilt at the Group 2 Launching Pad will be her next assignment.

“We’ve only seen her lead and win so far, so for her to come from behind in a Group race shows what she’s made of,” Howard said.

“She’s going to the Launching Pad now. She went brilliant in a trial down there and that’s the next step.”

Canya Sapphire ran a bold race in front to finish second, while Sweet Bee grabbed third.

Unfortunately, race favourite Honk Honk came to grief on the first bend but was reported to be okay after the fall.

The win continues Lagogiane’s strong run with young greyhounds and adds another feature trophy to his kennel.

With six wins from seven starts and a powerful closing burst, She’s That Girl looks set for a huge future.
