Size Does Matter Too Strong In The 2014 Healesville Cup
Size Does Matter finished strongly to take out the 2014 Group Two Healesville Cup on Sunday afternoon for Lara trainer Brooke Ennis.
The son of Bekim Bale and Size It Up (Elite State – Size ‘Em Up) arrived just in time to score by a neck over early leader El Grand Seal (7) in the time of 19.17.
After leaving the boxes cleanly, Size Does Matter was granted the luxury of plenty of room to move and found a handy position behind early leader El Grand Seal.
From that point, it was always going to be a case of Size Does Matter’s strength coming into play, but the resilient El Grand Seal certainly made him work for the victory.
The pair drew level in the final 100 metres and the hulking 35kg black dog only gained the upper hand in the concluding stages of the 350 metre straight dash.
Jeff Britton trained both place getters, with Cosmic Wise finishing third, two lengths further astern.
The win in the $45,000 to-the-winner event ensured that Size Does Matter maintained his unbeaten record since transferring to the Ennis kennel with his Victorian tally now three from three.
It was his 13th overall win from just 24 career outings and pushed his earnings to a tick over $70,000. He is likely to now pop up in some of the Group events over 500 metres where he excels.
Brooke and Jamie Ennis made it a feature double on the day when they also landed the Group Three Canberra Cup later in the evening with their star chaser My Bro Fabio.
